The staff and students at the school managed to raise £147 for the various projects that Sport Relief operate.

Phrase of the week
Have you ever ignored the elephant in the room? Have you ever heard any body use this idiom? Do you know how to use it?

This terms relates to any scenario where people are ignoring a big issue and not talking about it at all. The elephant in the room is the big issue being ignored. It could be anything from a row between a married couple that they don't want to bring up or a huge mistake by an organisation that they don't want to confront.
The origins of this term date back to the 1950s when it was used in the American press to discuss various 'taboo' political subjects and accused the government of "ignoring the elephant that was sitting in the room" See if you can use the phrase of the week today!

Oxford Literacy Festival
Taking place at the prestigious and iconic Christ Church college, the Sunday Times Oxford Literacy Festival has been taking over the city of Oxford over the past week and will drawing to a close this weekend. With various events from guest speakers including Walter Isaacson, biographer of Steve Jobs, and the Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams. The festival closes on Sunday 1st April following 9 days of various different speeches and events across the city.

That is all for this week, please get in touch with any feedback for the Eckersley Blog, what would you like to see us discuss?
